Today is the next race in my charity challenge, this time in West Yorkshire at the Spen Greenway 10k. This is a more low key race but it’s also doubling as the Northern Masters 10k road championship race. If it had been August or even better June I would have gone into this race hoping to medal, today however it is all about making sure I put last weeks race to bed and put an improved performance in.
The build up this week has been slightly better. Firstly it’s been in my dairy all year and only added it as part of challenge when I had to start replacing races. I know its a flattish out and back route. So long as I don’t blow up by halfway I should be able to have a good second half of the race. Tuesday I managed 4 miles at 5:40/mi pace. The only blip this week is I ended up having a tooth extraction on Thursday. So not only did I miss my Thursday speed session but my mouth is still rather sore. I did knock out a frisky 70 minute 10 miler Friday just to test how body was.
I’ve had a good nights sleep,so I’m hopeful I can run better then last week and build from there. Anything else is a bonus. After tomorrow I have a 3 week break from the challenge with the road relays next week with Barnsley AC and then the Northern Masters 5k road championship on the final Sunday in September. Then every race after that is for the challenge.
For this race as it’s a championship race, I will be wearing my club vest. So I will be running for both charities this week. Again thanks goes to my challenge sponsors Dransfield Properties and Fox Valley, who helped to cover race fees and my running shoes for the duration of the challenge.
