When I received my first pair of OOFOS, the product was still some what unknown in this country, however, the brand has grown and become more well known and popular. I know everyone I’ve recommended them to love their’s and yet to hear anything negative. So when they launched a new line of colours and products I just had to have a pair, the one that caught my eye was the OOahh Sport Electric Yellow, priced at £48, they are slightly more expensive than the classic OOFOS but this is the sports range. The Sports range target athletes and I always take a pair to any race which I then put on as soon as I’m done racing.
After-sport recovery – makes a bold, graphic statement — and the eye-catching, two-tone upper is just the beginning. Behind the good looks: OOfoam’s ground-breaking impact absorption and arch support, plus a patented foot bed for natural motion. Shower-ready, with moisture and bacteria-resistance.
- OOfoam: Absorbs 37% more shock than other materials
- Reduces stress on sore feet, knees and lower back
- Cradles your arches
- Biomechanically designed footbed allows natural motion
- Soft, conforming toe post eliminates toe chafing
- Shower/beach-ready — moisture and bacteria resistant; doesn’t retain smell
- Durable OOfoam holds its cushion
- Machine washable
- So light they float
OOFOS shoes are engineered to help your feet recover more quickly than other footwear. With me racing more and more in spikes due to me switching more to track, the old feet are taking a real pounding. The next day my feet can be very sore, as those who race in spikes will agree there is no padding like your normal road shoes. The sport are designed to act as shock absorbers for your feet. My house has a lot of hard floors and walking round in my OOFOS are like walking on padded cushions. I went for the Slide again as I’m not a fan of anything that goes between your toes but the option is there for those that do.
As I mention they retail at £48, more then the standard versions, using their OOFoam they absorb 37% more shock then similar materials. I found wearing them I also get less DOMS in my legs and lower back. Those who suffer from plantar fasciitis the design cradles your arches helping prevention of it coming back. I also like the fact you can take them into the shower room, so no more barefoot walking and because of the design the OOFOS are moisture and bacteria resistant. They also don’t smell.
Plus should the need require it you can stick them in the washer!. One thing I remember from my holiday last year is they are that light they float. As runners we are not known for the recovery aspect of our training and this is one thing we could all improve upon. I’ve personally learnt the hard way that prevention is better than a cure. Last thing you want is to be out injured and OOFOS are a good start and unlike running shoes you don’t need to replace them every 300+ miles, so you might think £48 is a lot but compared to £150 every 300 miles it’s a no brainer IMO.
