One month down, eleven more to go. The first month was an interesting month, 5 races (including parkruns) two missed races but ended up with 4 podiums including my first parkrun win, 4 new personal bests including setting a new club record at 3000m that has stood since 1986 and also clocking over 270 miles in a month!
Now focus switches to Feb, a short month in terms of days and my last month of winter training, my mileage has pretty much peaked now and clocked a 70 mile week for first time last week, I’ve got another two more big weeks of mileage before I come down again. This month will see me tackle another Walk in the Park 5k race, the routes been changed due to demolition work, so should be interesting to see how that makes a difference in terms of times.
Next week is the last of the Barnsley AC Winter Track series, this time it’s turn of the 10000m, I would like to do it but I’ve got an indoor 3000m the day before and would like to lower my time even further. Plus I’ve got on the horizon a 30k race and a 20 mile race. A moment both are planned to be run at my potential marathon pace as I use the winter to build my speed endurance. While at this moment in time I’m not doing any spring marathon, to do a long race over 15 miles at marathon pace will be a good idea of what sort of shape I’m in should I even decided to go back and tackle the only distance that still gives me nightmares.
I’ve got a 5k over in Bolton on 19th and aim there is to post a season best time. After this month is done, I will begin to focus on more speedwork as I target lowering my target times, I wrote this last month;
- 1 mile: sub 5
- 3000m: sub 10
- 5k/5000m/parkrun: sub 17
- 5 mile: sub 28
- 10k: sub 35
- 10 mile: sub 59
- half marathon: sub 79
So far I’ve achieved the following:
- Run 9.59.1 for 3000m
- Run close to by 10k PB at Inskip HM
- Ran an unofficial 5 mile PB of 28:28
- Ran an unofficial 10 mile PB in 58:14
- Run 76:26 for half marathon
So I’m very much on course to achieve this years main targets, I don’t expect to beat any PB’s now till April/May time as focus is still on high mileage over speed work. For Feb by provisional plans look at little like this:
- 4/2 No Walk in Park
- 7/2 Indoor 3000m
- 12/2 St Valentines 30k
- 19/2 Central Lancashire 5k
After the 12th will do my final recap of my winter training, plus will do a round up of what worked, things I learnt and what my focus is moving into March and spring.
